SCANNING & POST PROCESSING
At Bell Street Printworks we have the facilities to flatbed scan photos, negatives (up to 8x10") and documents for digital restoration.
Scanning and Digital Processing Initial Scanning: $20 per image, document, slide or negative For the technically minded: Each is scanned in each individual color (RGB, Red, Green, Blue) to maintain the best color quality. Adjustment to contrast and brightness takes place in the histogram. All of this is performed at the preview stage to give the best result in the final scan. Film and negatives: The Gallery scans APS-C to 8x10" negatives to 4800dpi (anything between 6400 and 19,800dpi is interpolated). The average file size from a 35mm negative or slide is 150MB at 16bit colour for a 48oodpi scan. The Gallery also flatbed scans photos or documents up to A4 size.
Digital Restoration Prices vary depending on the state of the original. We will quote on sighting the original material. Once the image is on the computer, we clean up any scratches or dust spots, color correct and take out any unwanted information from the file to completely rejuvenate the image. Customers are welcome to observe this process and offer feedback at each step so that he or she achieves the best result possible. If the customer cannot be present, the gallery will send the original scan and finished image by email to the customer for approval. NOTE: it must be remembered that the color setting on the gallery computer screen will differ from other screens. Scanned images can be burnt to disc (included in pricing).
