She launched into a professional career in photography for it allows her to showcase her own considerable mix of creative skills as a painter, designer, musician and performer. Ferne plays piano and saxophone and percussion. Her photography of music events, in particular, shows strong empathy with other performers and demonstrates her ability to capture the great moments of individual performances; a skill that comes from a shared passion and sensitivity to artistic processes. Her love of photography was nurtured at an early age exhibiting her first works at 15 years of age. “ A Slice of Life” showed people living and performing on the streets of Geelong and Melbourne. Her recent events work includes the Falls Festival at Lorne, Port Fairy Folk Festival and Womadelaide. Her solo Exhibition of works “Rock On” held at Revolver, Prahran last year showcased many of these festivals. Ferne was invited by Paul Watson to photograph the 30th anniversary Sea Shepherd Foundation Benefit Concert in Los Angeles USA in September 2007. Ferne has branched into studio shoots of musicians and artists, including recent CD shoots for Daddy Cool, Guitar Tablature book images for John Butler Trio and Vasco era for Universal Music. Daddy Cool Frontman Ross Wilson says about her “ We needed to recreate a particular pose for our album cover & Ferne captured it exactly & very quickly allowing us to spend more time doing other shots. We ended up getting a wide range of poses which attained high acceptance by the media. The ratio of usable shots was extremely high.” Ferne has a painter’s eye and keen design principles, which shows through in her photographs of interiors and architecture: work she really enjoys. More recently she has expanded rapidly her commercial clientele, from small to large firms, all of whom want quality work to best represent their operations. Photography for Ferne Millen is more than a job. She engages fully with each client and strives to provide the most professional service, as an artist with high standards of excellence and performance. To get the right shot she will assess the best angles and lighting, which is a strong feature of her work and she has been praised by many of her growing commercial clientele for the crispness and depth she obtains in her photographs as well as the ability to capture truly ‘the essence’ of their businesses and operations. www.fernemillen.com Clients website who show Ferne’s photographs: |
