Biography

Peter Kirkhouse's interest in photography began as a teenager growing up in Torquay in Victoria during the 70's. It wasn't long before the waves and new places to surf lured him further down The Great Ocean Road. For the last 25 years PK has been based around Port Campbell. During this time he has also travelled overseas and all over Australia with his super 8 and still camera as companions.

Surf and surfing are the main themes that run through his work and his life. He has worked on several surf video projects including Rip Curl's Savage Cuts, Rubber Soul and the seminal Blowing Up, besides a large number of independent projects and films such as Trash and Cold.

PK is also strongly influenced by Aboriginal culture and is exploring his own Aboriginal roots. The natural environment heavily influences his work. He was involved in the first Billabong Koorie surf competition and more recently travelled on the Tribal Warrior on its trip of reconciliation around Australia. (The Tribal Warrior is a 100 year old restored pearling lugger).

PK spends a great deal of his time exploring cliffs and remote tidal zones and windswept beaches of the Southern Ocean. His camera catches views of this ancient coast.

These views remain the same as viewed by the "Old Blackfellas" who walked and sang up this country since the dreaming began.

PK has an extensive still photo and film and digital video library.
